At Snoghøj, we offer a diverse selection of electives in the performing and creative arts. Additionally, we have several courses we call "breathing spaces." These are designed to help you relax and recharge – for instance, through seakayaking or yoga, where we use the stunning natural surroundings of Snoghøj as a setting for what we call "sustaina-being."
You have the freedom to create your own schedule by selecting the electives that inspire you. Whether you choose to deepen your skills in areas where you already excel or let your curiosity lead you toward new artistic and personal horizons, the choice is yours.

Acting Songs is for those who prefer a dramatic approach to singing and who, above all, wish to tell stories through their performance.
We approach the song in exactly the same way as we would a monologue or dialogue in a play. What are the dramatic intentions? What is the dramatic conflict? Where are we? Time, place, and context? In other words, we ask a series of questions designed to help you uncover the essence of the song and what it means to you.
If there are specific notes or phrases that don’t work from a purely technical singing perspective, we’ll address them as they come up. Experience in Acting Songs shows that the technical aspects often fall into place when you connect with the dramatic interpretation and understand what emotions the song evokes in you.
In the ceramics elective, we focus on learning the fundamental techniques that form the foundation of working with ceramics. You don’t need any prior experience – just a willingness to dive in and the patience to learn.
We will primarily work on creating functional ceramics (cups, bowls, and similar items). You’ll receive guidance on how to approach your project, but you’ll take the clay from its initial lump through all stages – conceptualization, shaping, firing, and glazing – so you gain a comprehensive understanding of the ceramic creation process. During the course, we’ll explore techniques such as slab building, coil building, pinching, and throwing, providing you with the tools to craft both functional and sculptural ceramics.
Dance begins with a foundation in the fundamental techniques of jazz, modern jazz, and ballet, giving you a solid base to develop your skills.
From there, we focus on enhancing your flexibility, balance, and, most importantly, your body awareness, enabling you to connect more deeply with your body and its movements. Classes typically begin with a group warm-up, strength exercises, and technical training before progressing to choreography.
In the choreography sessions, we draw from a diverse range of genres, including jazz, musical theater dance, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and street dance. Most importantly, we combine these elements to create our own unique expression. At its core, dance is about expressing yourself and using movement to tell both personal and shared stories.
A significant part of being at Snoghøj is discovering that almost anything is possible when we work together as a team and make it happen!
That’s why, each semester, we offer "The Flexible" as a wildcard elective. "The Flexible" is essentially a subject you can propose if you’re able to gather support from a handful of fellow students who, like you, think it would be exciting to explore topics such as creative writing, visual arts, 'gender, body, and sexuality', or something entirely different.
As described, it’s up to you to determine, through a democratic process with your classmates and in collaboration with the school’s teachers, what "The Flexible" will be during your semester. What are you passionate about? And what do you have the drive to bring to life?
The goal of this course is to help you become aware of your body as a dramatic tool and instrument that you can learn to master completely.
We work with fundamental emotions, such as exploring where your anger resides, how to access it, and how to bring it into play. Can you switch it off again when you leave the stage? Additionally, we focus on sensing the rhythm of a group and the dynamics of a space. Finally, we work on releasing conscious thought through various improvisations until we reach the so-called "zero point"—a state where you stop thinking about how you appear and instead exist fully in the moment, completely engaged with those around you.
Fysiodrama is a transformative course for exploring acting from a fresh perspective. It is also an excellent method for fostering a workspace free of inhibitions and built on trust and a strong sense of safety.
Seakayaking offers a unique opportunity to explore the Naturpark Lillebælt from the water! Together with your teammates, you’ll head out, cruise along, and take in the fresh air while recharging your energy.
A typical session begins with a shared focus. For example, you might be tasked with immersing yourself in nature and letting go of mental distractions. Along the way, we’ll pause, reflect on the task as a group, and perhaps spark a conversation about the society we live in – the challenges, the constant demands of digital media, and the pressure to always be "on." How does this affect us as individuals? And how can we bring the grounding we experience in the seakayak on Lillebælt – fully at one with nature and the water – into our everyday lives?
Seakayaking in harmony with nature is perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape, away from constant chatter, and close to the simplicity and tranquility of Lillebælt.
Solosinging and Voice provides you with a comprehensive theoretical understanding of your voice. You’ll explore concepts such as breath support and posture, timbre and tone color, sound production and vocal functions, genre familiarity, and vocal effects.
In addition to technical vocal training, we focus on interpretation, equipping you with the tools to communicate your story effectively on stage – whether your passion lies in rock, pop, jazz, or musical theater.
We work in small groups, with each student taking turns to work intensively and individually with the teacher. This method allows you to learn directly through personalized coaching and indirectly by observing your peers’ learning processes. The groups are divided by skill level, ensuring there’s a place for you regardless of your experience or proficiency!
Songwriting is for anyone who wants to put pen to paper and create their own song lyrics. You don’t need to play an instrument to join this course – the focus is on the artistic creativity of the process, and often, a smartphone is all you need to record a melody. Lyrics, sheet music, and chords can always be added later – perhaps with help from one of your classmates!
In this course, you’ll develop a wide range of skills, including composition, chord progressions, melody, genre familiarity, instrumentation, and arrangement. You’ll also engage in various writing exercises designed to unlock your creative ideas and help you craft original songs.
After you and your classmates have written your lyrics and corresponding music, we’ll dive into the recording process. The school has a fully equipped songwriting studio with the latest technology. We primarily use Logic Pro and Garageband, and you’ll learn everything from building tracks to recording live instruments and vocals. Most importantly, you’ll refine every detail until your song achieves the exact sound and expression you envision!
In the Upcycling course, we give old clothes a new life. We do this by using clothes that thrift stores are unable to sell. We wash and sort the garments, then brainstorm ideas on how they can be upcycled, recycled, or transformed into refashioned pieces.
We’ll help you learn the techniques you need – whether it’s sewing, crocheting, or using a sewing machine, you’ll pick it up along the way!
Yoga is about uniting and creating balance between the body, mind, and spirit. Through various physical postures, you will build greater strength and mobility. You’ll also enhance your body awareness and learn about different levels of tension as well as techniques for effective breathing.
Meditation originates from the ancient yoga tradition, dating back thousands of years. Through a series of foundational exercises, you will strengthen your ability to live with calmness and presence. Meditation is renowned for promoting well-being, particularly in a daily life that can often feel overwhelming and stressful. If you are deeply ambitious in your artistic pursuits, yoga and meditation might provide the much-needed respite you’re seeking.
